For advisers

A business finance pathway for your clients

Fundsmart works with professional advisers where a client has a business, asset, commercial property, development or specialist funding requirement outside the adviser’s usual area of work.

Referral positioning

Help your client without needing to become the business finance specialist

A client may approach a mortgage adviser, accountant or other trusted professional before they know what type of commercial finance is required. Fundsmart can review the proposed transaction, explain what information may be needed and consider possible funding pathways.

Types of referrals

Commercial funding requirements Fundsmart can review

Working capital

Short-term funding to support trading, seasonal cash flow or operational requirements.

Equipment and commercial vehicles

Finance for business assets, machinery, trucks and commercial vehicles where the client needs a structured proposal.

Business purchases

Funding to acquire an existing business, goodwill, shares or a competitor’s book.

Commercial property

Refinance, purchase or equity release for commercial, industrial or retail property.

Development finance

Residential subdivision, townhouse, terrace housing and smaller commercial development projects.

Bridging and short term finance

Temporary funding while a sale, refinance or longer-term solution is finalised.

Business and IRD debt refinancing

Restructuring existing business debt or tax obligations into a more workable arrangement.

Stock, import and trade finance

Funding to purchase inventory, import goods or support supplier and customer trading cycles.

Invoice and contract finance

Funding against receivables or contract milestones to improve cash flow.

Specialist commercial transactions

Complex or non-standard funding requirements that fall outside typical residential or consumer lending.

Referral process

How the referral process works

01

Introduce the opportunity

The adviser provides the client’s authority and basic details of the proposed transaction.

02

Fundsmart contacts the client

Fundsmart discusses the funding purpose, timing and business circumstances.

03

Fundsmart reviews and structures the enquiry

Where appropriate, Fundsmart gathers the relevant information and considers possible provider pathways.

04

The adviser is kept informed

Subject to the client’s authority, Fundsmart keeps the referring adviser informed about the progress and outcome.

Client relationship

A collaborative approach

Fundsmart’s role is to assist with the business or commercial finance requirement. We recognise the importance of the referring adviser’s existing client relationship and will work collaboratively, subject to the client’s instructions and privacy obligations.

Referral income

Referral arrangements

Fee sharing arrangements are agreed directly with approved referral partners before referrals are progressed. Fundsmart’s intended referral model is structured so lender clawback is not passed back to the referring adviser, subject to the agreed written terms.

Fundsmart is a finance broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to the selected funding provider's assessment, approval, terms and documentation.

Fundsmart assists with business, commercial and investment purpose finance. We do not arrange consumer residential mortgages or personal lending.
